Can you believe it's been over 13 years since I first launched Janek's Bass Studio? It's been an incredible journey, filled with ups and downs. But now, I find myself at a crossroads. The subscription side of the site, once known as Video Bass Lessons, no longer aligns with my day-to-day routine. To continue it would require a significant amount of resources and attention, which means I would need to hire more staff and make it the center of my life. Something that unfortunately just isn’t an option right now.
However, please don't think for a moment that the content we've created for the subscription isn't valuable or worth being proud of. Quite the contrary, actually. I've poured countless hours into it every year, and I'll continue to upload new material even after we close the subscription options this week.
For this week only, we're keeping the Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime subscriptions available. But come midnight on Sunday, the sign-up option will be gone. As a token of my gratitude for your unwavering support in reading the blog, listening to the podcast, and providing feedback, I'm offering a special discount exclusively to our loyal subscribers. At checkout use the code "CLOSING250" to receive a $250 discount on a lifetime membership, or "CLOSING18" for $18 off the annually billed monthly option.
I'll delve deeper into this topic in the next episode of the podcast, but to put it simply: managing the subscription side of things has become overwhelming for me alone. We'll still offer individual courses and videos for purchase, and rest assured, existing members and past course purchasers will maintain access to the material.
My decision to close the doors is primarily driven by my desire to serve our current members and those who choose to join us before the subscriptions close. I'm thrilled to welcome a few more people on board this week, and moving forward, I want to focus my energy on a smaller, but more dedicated audience.
This change will allow me to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to maintaining the site, creating new content, and supporting our current students, all while preventing it from taking over my life. Lately, it has hindered me from pursuing my musical goals and enjoying life as a bass player. As my family grows and my career refocuses on performances and recordings, maintaining the pace of uploading 80-100 new videos a year, as I've done for over a decade, has become unrealistic.
So, as I embark on this new chapter, focussing more on recording, performing live and continuing to write book,s and possibly even do some private teaching or university level lecturing on a more regular basis, your incredible support means the world to me. From those who go all-out and grab a lifetime membership, to those who simply take the time to hit the like button here on substack, it’s all important to me, and none of it goes unnoticed.
Thanks,
Janek
You’re one of my favorite educators(if not favorite) of all time, Janek. I can’t wait to see what you have in store next. Thanks for fighting the good fight, and championing education, practice, diligence, and no shortcuts.
