Is practicing with the TV on total genius or a total distraction? Join me on another 1hr practice session where I'm working on one chord, the dominant chord, for an hour.
I'm getting into triad pairs of all shapes and sizes, as well as Barry Harris 6th diminished, symmetrical diminished, and many other sounds along the way.
The video has no talking, is unedited (aside from camera angle changes), and is fully annotated throughout, giving you all the insight in what I was thinking and doing throughout the entire session.
The triad pairs and general concepts behind what I was doing today can be found in two of my books.
All the exercises in Ten-Minute Manual lend themselves not only to the book’s suggested ten-minute increments, but also to exactly what I’m doing over the course of the hour in today’s video. I just got a large delivery of physical copies of this book, so if signed paperbacks are you thing… grab one before they’re gone!
Practice to Performance goes a little deeper, as you’ll see from some of the screen shots I include in the video, into the building blocks of a routine. You can get eBook, signed paperback, and multimedia versions of this book in the store.
If you were ever unsure about how to best use whatever time you have to allocate to practice, both of these books can be a good springboard to get you moving in the right direction.
Enjoy the video, and be sure to leave comments and questions below it on Youtube. it helps the algorithm more than you can imagine, and it gives me a chance to answer all questions in one place.
More soon,
Janek
It was helpful to watch this. You would think that watching someone else practice would be very boring. Sometimes my own practice seems very boring. But seeing someone who is so skilled going through it the exact same way I sometimes feel when I practice is very encouraging. So thanks! What was your takeaway on Netflix? Good to watch for this type of technical practice or not? I think if it helps you get through then it has to be good. 🏇
I’m excited to watch this. I know lots of people that watch TV while practicing, but I just haven’t been able to swing it. Also, I’ve been loving your practice content!
