The main focus of today’s email is of course the new video I just posted to the main channel.
I extracted Henrik’s original bass part to the Dirty Loops “Circus” cover, and played along to the song creating my own version.
I could write/talk for hours on the topic of playing along to things you love, and how that has improved my playing beyond measure over the years, but the basics are:
Find songs you love
Challenge yourself to play things you don’t quite understand yet
Transcribe the heck out of the part you’re trying to learn
Play along with the record until you’re so far inside the phrasing and the time that you can only hear one part
With modern technology, and using a previous sponsor of the channel LALAL.ai, I was able to remove the original bass part and create one of my own. This is the second part of the “imitate then innovate” method that Hal Crook hipped me to back in my Berklee days.
I’m not saying I’m taking Henrik’s thing to another level, or improving upon it at all, I’m just able to give my own original take on Dirty Loop’s cover idea, and have a ton of fun in the process.
I first jammed to the song and to Henrik’s part (Imitate), then created my own take on the idea (Innovate).
This email also serves as a bit of an update on all things Gwizdala, bass, and online related.
Janek’s Bass Studio closed its doors to new recurring subscriptions some months ago, and as of tomorrow the entire library of content will be moving to www.janekgwizdala.com. If you’re a recurring or lifetime member that is grandfathered into the system, you’ll be able to access all the material again in a few days once the update is complete, and will continue to have access as long as your subscription is current.
If you need to cancel, if you need help, if you are having issues of any kind with ANY of the material, please just send us an email at the website and we’ll take care of you as quickly as possible.
www.janeksbassstudio.com will start redirecting to new location very soon, and access to videos and play alongs for all my books will be located at my main website also.
I felt it was time to have everything in one place, and make sure anyone using my material could access all aspects of it with just one username/login/password etc.
Much more news coming in a couple of days with a fresh episode of the podcast, plus some special limited-edition products in the store for Black Friday and the holidays!
Love you guys,
Janek
