People might be more familiar with Pat Metheny not having a bass player in his band these days, but almost 20 years ago Chris Potter was doing it with the incredible lineup of Wayne Krantz, Craig Taborn, and Nate Smith.
I always love hearing Krantz in settings other than his own trio. It’s kind of rare since he stopped touring as a sideman, and there are limited amounts of bootlegs of him with the Brecker Brothers or Steely Dan.
And I gotta say, even as a bass player, there seems to be a lot of freedom for this group without a bass player in the band.
It’s another long one, and I hope it gets you through your run, your commute, your workout, or wherever you’re checking out the song-a-day journey.
Enjoy,
Janek
