Tower of Power was a huge part of the soundtrack of my mid to late teens. I’d have “what is hip” and “down to the night club” blasting in the car on the way to gigs with my first band “Transmission”.
We had three horns and a big rhythm section, and although we didn’t play west coast soul and funk like Tower of Power, I definitely learned a lot from Rocco Prestia on those records about how to be a bass player in such a large ensemble.
As far as I can tell (there are no band intros on this entire bootleg), the personnel are as follows:
Francis Rocco Prestia - Bass
David Garibaldi - Drums
Chester Thompson - Keyboards/vocals
Larry Williams - Lead Vocals
Emillio Castillo - Sax
Lenny Pickett Sax
Doc Kupa - Baritone Sax
Greg Adams - Trumpet
Mic Gillette - Trumpet/Trombone
Enjoy,
Janek
