ASAD #40 Larry Goldings with Michael Brecker Quartet
Maybe one of the most swinging organ players of his generation
I’ve long admired the organ fulfilling the roll of the bass player in a group. I was fortunate enough to see John McLaughlin’s “Free Spirits” with Joey Defrancesco and Dennis Chambers, and also the trio with Joey and Elvin Jones. I also lived on the same street as the club “Smoke” in NYC for many years which was well known for B3 sessions that the likes of George Benson would come and sit in at.
All that to say, I’ve been a very happy member of the audience on many an occasion, watching a less conventional instrument do my job. Larry’s sound and feel is so fat on this bootleg, and locks with the drums in a very unique and hard-swinging way.
I hope you dig the incredible quartet of Michael Brecker, Adam Rogers, Bill Stewart and Larry Golding’s playing Pat Metheny’s “Timeline” live at Ronnie Scott’s in London over 20 years ago.
Janek
It's so great to hear Adam in this period with Brecker. There aren't official recordings from this era so I've only heard the few live YouTube videos that are floating around.
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
We always look forward for a new adventure.
All the best
