The short-lived run of having a Blue Note jazz club in Las Vegas lasted less than two years in the early 2000’s. Despite that, there were some incredible moments captured via bootlegs like this one, where Will Kennedy had left the Yellowjackets and they were looking for a full-time replacement.
Before hiring Marcus Baylor for the gig full-time, there were a ton of incredible drummers that stepped in for brief stints including Vinnie Colaiuta, Terri Lyne Carrington, Peter Erskine, and Obed Calvaire.
I wore out the “Live Wires” album from 1991 which is where I know this track, “Claire’s Song”, from.
I highly recommend giving the full album a listen.
Enjoy,
Janek
Do I not recall seeing you with the YJ at some point, perhaps in Rochester NY?
They are one of my all-time favorite bands. Their most recent bass player, Dane Alderson, is a monster player... !
