It never ceases to amaze me how long this trio has been around. They were one of the first things I flocked to the 55bar to see when I moved to New York City in 2000, and I was fortunate enough to become great friends with Tim over the years, and also play with both Wayne and Keith in different settings. Listening to this lineup never gets old and I’m always able to extract something new out of their performances that I’m inspired to try in my own playing.
This track really highlights Tim’s creativeness in the pocket both with his time and his sonic choices via the pedalboard. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’ve “stolen” a lot from Tim over the years, not least of all in my pedal choices.
One of the other things highlighted in this track is this language of tempo changes and form the trio developed over the years. Something totally unique to the Krantz sound, and a testament to his continued innovation of form in improvised music.
Enjoy!
