I believe this is with Don Grolnick on piano, Peter Washington on bass, and Bill Stewart on drums. I’m not 100% sure, and I’m getting some second and third opinions from people who might actually have been at this show. I’ll be sure to update with an edit below if I have more info.
I’m also not sure of the tune, but it could be a Trane solo they’re playing in unison as the head. I feel so underpowered on this one as I’m normally so deep into the music that I know every detail of it.
I’ve listened to this many thousands of times and got so much information from both Joe and Mike. The time and sound, despite the terrible quality of the recording, is so on point.
It’s that small club vibe (somewhere I know well as I played there a bunch when I first moved to NYC), and I can close my eyes and put myself in almost any seat in the house and be right in the mix of the show, and experience the energy of Sweet Basic once again.
This is where I come when I need a kick in the ass. Right back to the tapes, and right back to being schooled by the masters that have come before us.
Enjoy,
Janek
